Our Easton Library Director, Bernadette Baldino, created the “Community Read” program for our town. In 2008 she selected the book, Marley and Me, as the first community-wide “One Book—One Community” book. ELF provided funds so that this book could be distributed in various reading levels and read throughout the community. From picture books for preschoolers to the unabridged version for adults, this book is available at our library for all to enjoy.
Easton residents are encouraged to read Marley and Me, and share their interpretation of the book in discussions at the library. The library held a dog show as the kick-off activity for this community wide read. ELF helped fund the purchase of these books and the related fun-filled activities. “One Book—One Community” has been well received by the whole community and encourages everyone to read, share and discuss the excitement of the book Marley and Me.
