In 2004, five JBHS staff members (Jen Desmarais, Paul Hamlin, Thomas Kilbourn, Fil Magrino, and Dee Pries) attended the “Institute on Redesigning American High Schools for Improved Instruction” offered at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. They formed a Joel Barlow High School Redesign Study Team to continue to analyze change and success in our high school. The team strives to learn more and continue moving JBHS toward the future.
On October 2, 2008, ELF presented Tom McMorran, Head of School at JBHS, with a check for $9,075. The funds were used to provide for two JBHS faculty members to attend the “Institute on Redesigning American High Schools for Improved Instruction” offered at Harvard, to purchase SMARTboards, and to provide silver materials and a drill for the Art department.
ELF co-funded with the Redding Education Foundation two teacher teams to attend the “Institute on Redesigning American High Schools for Improved Instruction” offered at Harvard:
- Change Leadership: Systemic Change for Student Success - Jim DeVoto, Paul Hamlin, and Jessica Staley
- Redesigning High Schools for Improved Instruction - Amy Christman, Jen Desmarais, and Jane McNulty
